GeoSearch2011 - Accessibility help

The following text describes which sections of the GeoSearch2011 tool are accessible via the data table and which sections are not accessible (i.e. the information is represented visually via the map only).

Search tab:

GeoSearch allows searching for a place, postal code, street address, street intersection or geographic code. Searching for a place or a geographic code will display the result information into an accessible data table. Searching for a postal code, a street address or a street intersection will not display the result information into a data table, it will be visually represented on the map only.
  • Place search:
  • The place search is accessible. To perform a place search, enter a location and, if applicable choose a specific result from the drop-down list.

The results contain either standard geographic areas (Census Divisions, Designated Places, etc) and/or non-standard geographic areas (such as former localities). Standard geographic areas are visually represented on the map as a polygon and have associated data in the data table. Non-standard geographic areas are visually represented on the map as a point location, not as a polygon, and there is no associated data in the data table.

  • Street address search:
  • The street address search is not accessible. A street address is visually represented on the map as a point location. There is no associated data in the data table because a street address is not a standard geographic area.

  • Street intersection search:
  • The street intersection search is not accessible. A street intersection is visually represented on the map as a point location. There is no associated data in the data table because a street intersection is not a standard geographic area.

  • Postal code search:
  • The postal code search is not accessible. A postal code is visually represented on the map as a point location. There is no associated data in the data table.

  • Geographic code search:
  • The geographic code search is accessible. To perform a geographic code search, select a level of geographic area, then enter a geographic code.

The result contain a single geographic code that is associated with a standard geographic area. The geographic area is visually represented on the map as a polygon and has associated data in the data table.

Boundaries tab:

The boundaries tab is not accessible. Boundaries are visually represented on the map. There is no associated data in the data table.

Thematic maps tab:

The thematic maps tab is not accessible. Thematic maps are visually represented on the map. There is no associated data in the data table.

Geographic hierarchy tab:

The geographic hierarchy is available in an accessible format.

Related data and maps tab:

The related data and maps tab is accessible. Related data provide links to other Census products such as the Census Profile and Focus on Geography. Related maps provide links to PDF reference maps.
